Dr. Berentson does not conduct autism spectrum disorder assessments, chemical dependency/addiction evaluations, or any court-ordered/forensic evaluations. Dr. Berentson does not provide letters for emotional support animals.

Initial Visit
Your first visit will most likely be a clinical interview. During this hour long process your presenting concerns and background information will be discussed. At the end of the visit, Dr. Berentson hopes your individual needs have been heard and treatment options will be discussed based on your unique situation. If there are services that Dr. Berentson cannot provide for you but are relevant to your care, referral resources will be discussed and provided. Treatment plans, goals and length of treatment will vary depending on many factors. Dr. Berentson will aim to discuss these areas with you within the first couple visits.
Psychological Assessment
Psychological Assessment is a process of integrating different forms of data including clinical judgement, collateral information and psychological testing for the purpose of providing recommendations. Oftentimes the process starts with the initial intake or clinical interview. Psychological testing may be used as part of the assessment process to help clarify diagnosis or provide more insight into areas of concern.
Trauma
Dr. Berentson aims to recognize the impact trauma has on an individuals life and functioning. Whether or not you meet criteria for PTSD, you may have symptoms or concerns that stem from untreated trauma. Dr. Berentson recognizes there is more than one way to treat trauma. She is capable of providing evidence based therapies in the field of psychology to help on your path of healing while also understanding that healing is done best within a holistic scope. Psychotherapy is just one part of the process for many with histories of trauma.
Perinatal
Perinatal mental health conditions are the number one complication of childbearing. (www.postpartum.net). These conditions can include depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, trauma and psychosis. Dr. Berentson was the first recipient in North Dakota of the Perinatal Mental Health Certification from Postpartum Support International. She has been trained by the Gottman Institute for Level I couples work and Bringing Baby Home program. She regularly attends conferences on the subject and enjoys keeping up with the latest research and treatment approaches for this population. She has special interest in treatment birth related trauma and perinatal loss. Further, she is excited and honored to be on the journey of healing for all the cycle breaking parents as they navigate this new chapter in life.
